Sweetness and Light

This modern space in Los Angeles, a seamless blend of vintage and new, is actually a pop-up—the work of The Line partnering with DECASO. See more of this stunning collaboration over at Anne Sage here.

A Creative Space
Take a tour of the Copenhagen home of artists Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz, featuring rooms in the most beautiful colours and (of course) great art. That's their living room above, incidentally.

People Matching Artworks
Wonderful series by photographer Stefan Draschan capturing museum visitors wearing outfits that match the art they're viewing. Not surprisingly, it requires tremendous patience to do—he shot two other series while waiting for the perfect moment.

Top 10 Brothers and Sisters in Fiction
Sarah Ward selects 10 novels featuring the complex relationships between sisters and brothers, ranging from To Kill a Mockingbird to A Room With a View.

Habitat: Peer into the World of Framers, Fabricators, Conservators and More
Fascinating behind the scenes look at the work of the art-service professionals (in this case, in New York) who play a crucial role in making sure the art we see in museums and galleries is in peak condition and perfectly displayed.

Anna Jones' Favourite Lentils With Roasted Tomatoes and Horseradish
This really is a genius way to cook lentils—loads of flavour, healthy ingredients and easy to put together, too. Perfect for a weeknight supper with a green salad on the side.

A Brief Pause

I'm a little under the weather here, so posts will be fewer for a bit. For today, a space that would positively be a pleasure to languish in.

The IKEA Dictionary
This is the kind of thing the internet was made for—a labour of love shared with like-minded souls. As an IKEA geek, I find this wonderful (and informative).

The Little-Known Friendships of Iconic Women Writers
How women writers like Jane Austen and Charlotte Brontë were far from being the solitary eccentrics and/or isolated geniuses they're portrayed in literary history.

Gorgeous and (Almost) Impossible to Kill House Plants
Great list of house plants that are hardy enough to withstand even the most challenged of would-be green thumbs.

A Bright Brooklyn Brownstone

After two years of looking, architects and married couple Ed Parker and Barbara Tutino Parker finally found a New York apartment, located in a 19th century building in Park Slope. With a railroad style layout measuring 12 feet six inches at its widest, it isn't the easiest space, but they both loved its character and went ahead anyway. The results are definitely rewarding. Atelier: Evan Clayton Horback

I love hand made artist books, and this one, "Belle no 7" by Evan Clayton Horback, is a particularly beautiful example. Mixed media on book cover. See more of Evan's work here.

Electric Blue

Admiring the stylish Paris home of interior designer Sarah Lavoine today, a duplex on the top floor of a 19th century house. Stunning use of colour—where others would have used grey or other neutral tones as a running theme, she's opted for an extraordinary deep turquoise. More here on AD Germany.

The 20,000-Year-Old History of Red Pigments in Art
Fascinating overview of the colour red in art history, from the red ochre used by Neanderthal artists in their cave art to Lithol, used by Rothko in a series of murals in 1962 to dire effect—the untested new pigment turned out to be highly light sensitive.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake
A useful recipe to have in your repertoire, this version by French cookery writer Clotilde of Chocolate and Zucchini (no, uh, relation) is an elegant take on a modern classic (the addition of a dash of coffee is genius).

Cultured Cabin

After ten years of renting cabins for the summer in the Finnish port city of Hano, interiors editor and stylist Jonna Kivilahti and partner Riku were offered a long term rental cottage in the Inkoo archipelago, not far from where they usually stayed. They jumped at the opportunity, and now enjoy a more settled summer holiday with their family in the pretty space you see here. More here on Bo Bedre.
