Sunny Mid-Century Modern
How could you not be happy in this cheerful, mid-century California home? Gently updated by architect David Yama of Yamamar Design and interior designer Alison Damonte, it's now a showcase for a great art collection—including a stunning cast concrete fireplace, made in Mexico in the 1960's. More over at Chic Deco here.

Sweetness and Light
Love how that delicate, celestial blue green wall colour contrasts with the deep bronze of the niche. The furniture is pretty nice, too.

Take a virtual tour of Frank Sinatra's original Palm Springs estate, a jewel of mid-century modern cool. That's the dining room you see above.
How Do Families Around the World Spend Their Vacations?
Lovely photo essay over at the New York Times of how families in Estonia, Japan, China, Ukraine, Guinea, Italy, Iran and Colombia.
Knockers-Up
From 1900-1941, early risers in Britain and Ireland often relied on a knocker-up to get to work on time. Alarm clocks were still uncommon, so a knocker-up would be paid a few pence a week to bang on doors or rap on upper windows with a long pole, not leaving until the door or window opened. Fascinating bit of social history.
A Visit to Five Artists Studios
Interior Design magazine visits the studios of five artists who are redefining classic techniques and materials. Inspiring read.
Kitchen Ware Designed to Annoy You
Athens-based architect Katerina Kamprani's project "The Uncomfortable" is a series of household objects that are, well, uncomfortable. Beautiful to look at and annoying to actually use, they're designed to make you laugh. Love.

A useful list of art supplies that should be used with caution. Nice to see that there are safer substitutes available now for many of them, too.
Isle of Dogs Trailer
So looking forward to seeing this! Have a look at the first trailer for Isle of Dogs, Wes Anderson's charming new animated feature, out in 2018. Great cast in this, too.
Marian Burros' Plum Crumble
Enjoy the last fruits of summer with this buttery and comforting crumble.

A Barcelona Loft
Admiring this great industrial loft in Barcelona, renovated by interior designer Marta Castellano and architecture studio Serrat-Tort—so many great original details. Also love the retro decorating of the space, harkening back to the first reclaimed industrial spaces in 1970's New York—check out that lounge platform off the dining area. More here at Est Magazine.

A Photographer's Retreat
Looking at this beautiful, light-filled home in Sonoma County, California, it's hard to imagine what it was like when photographers Laura Resen and Cloud Devine first saw it—dark walls, fluorescent kitchen lighting, purple and cream shag carpeting in the bedrooms. The pair saw the potential behind it all, though, with Cloud happily taking charge of the renovation. Love the results. See more here at One Kings Lane.

Green House
The tiny fourth floor Copenhagen apartment of Thilde Santin seems a long way away from its central city location, thanks to its splendid profusion of plants. Love how she's created a peaceful green oasis in her home. More here on Bolig.

Perfect for when you just want a sandwich, but yearn for something a bit fancier and more filling than the usual. This one features mushrooms sautéed in garlic, black tapenade, provolone cheese, fresh oregano leaves and salami on good bread rolls, but it's endlessly adaptable.
