The perfect cup of coffee (or tea, if you prefer).

An Attic in Paris

What was once the former Paris mansion of star Josephine Baker is now home to architect François Pélegrin, wife Evelyn and family. Sensitively renovated, they left untouched as much of the original architecture as possible, concentrating on making it energy efficient. Now set up as a duplex, François works from his office on the ground floor, while he and his family live in the charming attic you see here. More here on Maison Créative.

Atelier: Josep Moncada

All refracted light and fresh water, this summery scene by the Spanish painter Josep Moncada will definitely keep you feeling cool today. See more of his beautiful work here.

Happy weekend! Hope it's a lovely one. Looking forward to sunny weather and catching up with friends over coffee — enjoy your own.

The Porsche-Inspired House

It is in the city of Asahikawa on Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island, that you'll find a house devoted to a dream. Of a Porsche 911, actually. The businessman owner longs to own one some day, and in the meantime requested Jun Igarashi Architects to build him a house where he could gaze at that Porsche — one that Igarashi honoured by placing an extra wide doorway between the living room and garage. The rest of the house is just as remarkable, consisting of 11 boxes clustered around two courtyards — all featuring a minimalist aesthetic (and plenty of room for his wife and child to entertain themselves when the businessman admires his new car). More here on Interior Design.

Sweetness and Light

A cultivated and bohemian sort of space, with intriguing vistas and an interesting art collection.

13 Films That Will Make You Want to Travel
Great list over at My Domaine of films with a theme of travel (or just with stunning locations). Happy to see it includes a lot of faves — particularly the brilliant film The Trip with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.

Why Record Stores Mattered
Lovely read. Amanda Petrusich writes in the New Yorker about the recent demise of the legendary Other Music in New York, and how it was a formative influence on her life.

Amy Schumer and Anna Wintour Switch Jobs
Fun video short. Watch.

Crucial Wine Pairings for Whatever BBQ You're Making
Bon Appétit has put together a great list of suggestions for wine and BBQ pairings — a nice change from the usual beer (as good as that is).

Ambient Music to Help You Sleep
An insomniac for most of his life (since age 4!) Moby put together 4 hours of quiet ambient music to help him fall asleep — music that he is now sharing online for free. Perfect for yoga or meditation as well as for drifting off to dreamland.

Sour Cream Pear Spice Cake
Perfect with coffee or tea, this delectable cake is easy to make, too.

Dutch Light

This pretty Dutch family home has a splendid lightness of touch, with delicate pastels and blond wood used to great effect against the bright white background. So livable and welcoming. More here on vt wonen.

Atelier: Dorothea Tanning

Today I'm admiring The Girl, a costume design for the 1950 ballet The Witch by John Cranko. Drawn by the fascinating Dorothea Tanning, this delicately lovely ink and gouche drawing on dark blue paper definitely transcends its original use — it's a work of art all on its own.

We're sweltering through a heatwave right now, so airy and minimal interiors are looking especially good today. Have a great week — and stay cool.

A Well Designed Life

Today I'm admiring the lovely Frederiksberg apartment of art director Ida Thestrup and analysis consultant Morten Dalgaard Hansen — fantastic style in a small space, with lovely touches of surreal humour here and there. Really love this one. More here on BoligLiv.
