Moments of Beauty

A beautiful mystery. Love this elegantly odd image by Boris Ovini for A Magazine — it's what I imagine would be the result if Vermeer and Magritte collaborated on a painting together.

Simple Pleasures

Those few precious days just after Christmas and before New Year's Eve, when it's still holiday season, but the festive mood mellows, deepens. Savour that moment.

Boxing Day

It's Boxing Day here in Canada — in my family, a day to recuperate from the Christmas festivities and settle down to the quiet enjoyment of the holiday. Enjoy your own.

Moments of Beauty

Subtle sensuality. Love the soft, fluid look and colour of this satin slip dress, exquisitely photographed by Paolo Roversi.

Atmospheric in Milan

An 18th century palazzo in Milan, transformed by Dimore Studio into what they describe as "a container for contemporary life." Love the wide ranging mix of eras in the furnishings throughout — beautifully done. More here on yellowtrace — and you can see Dimore Studio's own Milan home on an earlier automatism post here.

When Dimore Studio got their hands on this 18th century Milanese Palazzo, they conceived the apartment as “a container for contemporary life.” Approached as a place to house collected objects, the designers curated a series of pieces from distant times and places. These pieces have been arranged in refreshingly unexpected combinations.

Handmade Holidays

Home baked goods are always a welcome part of the holidays, but right now I'm really liking this pretty Cranberry Swirl Bread by Jonathan Stiers of the lovely The Stiers Aesthetic — a nice change from the usual sweet desserts.

An elegant, modern take on the holiday season to start the week, with this pretty paper wreath styled by Yael Grinham of The Laneway Studio. Have a lovely one.

A Well Designed Christmas

The Frederiksberg apartment of Danish graphic designer Mette Myhlendorf Knudsen is an elegant example of a minimalist approach to Christmas decorating — one with a focus on the simple pleasures of the season (and a strong appreciation for good design, too). More here on Mad og Bolig.

Happy weekend! Hope it's a lovely one. It's been a crazy busy week here (apologies for the erratic posts here), so planning on having a little down time on Sunday before the holidays really get started. Enjoy your own!

Moments of Beauty

Warm and beautiful. Love this textured moss green knit coat sweater — subtle colour, great silhouette and drape. Photo of Charlotte Wiggins by Damian Foxe for How To Spend It magazine, December 2014.

From Stables to Studio

A former manor house stables in the small village of Headbourne Worthy, near Winchester in the UK was rescued from its unused, dilapidated state and converted into this elegant three bedroom studio home by architectural firm AR Design Studio. Love how it references its origins throughout. Lovely and sensitive renovation. More here on Arch Daily.

Handmade Holidays

Love this pretty nature-themed holiday table decor — a fresh take on a season that tends towards the sparkly. Great way to get your little ones involved in the decorating, too, either making snowflakes or painting pinecones.

Simple Pleasures

Something light to read over the holidays — a welcome respite during a very busy season.

Phillip Lim At Home

Beautiful and tranquil, the New York City loft of fashion designer Phillip Lim also functions as a gallery, giving his collections of classic furniture pieces and serious contemporary art the space to be seen and appreciated. The home of an interesting and creative mind. More here at the Wall Street Journal.
