Mexico Modern

A ruined seventeenth century hacienda in the Mexican jungle of Yucatan is now a stunning mix of Mayan culture and modern design, thanks to the inspired vision of sculptor Jorge Pardo. Asked to be part of a project by Mexican banker Roberto Hernandez and his wife Claudia Madrazo to purchase ancient haciendas (in order to protect the remains of Mayan culture), Pardo opted for the most dilapidated one, to have the most creative freedom. Working with his team and local craftsmen, Pardo spent six years making what is essentially an artwork you can live in. Magical. More here on AD France.

Paris Glamour

Architects Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty of Paris-based Studio Ko have made a name for themselves all over the world with their dramatic designs, but here the pair are in their home city of Paris, bringing their luxe mix of custom designed pieces and flea market finds to a sophisticated loft overlooking the rooftops of Paris. I'm particularly smitten with that amazing staircase. Stunning. More here on Trendland.

Sweetness and Light

This would be rather wonderful to come home to — the entrance hall of Pierre and São Schlumberger's Parisian flat, circa 1974. Fantastic mix of French antiques and a Mark Rothko painting.

A Clear Light

Admiring this lovely Scandinavian home today, photographed by Pia Winther for Elle Decoration. No other details, though it seems to have been for a holiday issue (as there's some subtle Christmas decor here and there), but wanted to share as it's such a wonderfully peaceful space.

A Graceful Home

What was once the home of Monaco's Consulate General in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen, is now the light and happy home of Pernille, Lars, their three children and their dog Stella. But it took some work first after they purchased it — the 1939 building was worn and had an impractical layout, designed as it was for public and private use, with many small rooms and hallways. After it was all done, though, they had a lovely surprise gift from the former owners — a signed autograph of Grace Kelly, who, it turned out, had been a guest there many years before. Weekend

Happy weekend! Hope it's a lovely one. It's going to be a busy one here, with both Halloween and a wedding — looking forward to it all. Enjoy your own!

Montreal Via Copenhagen

Danish fashion executive Erik Rydingsvärd knew exactly what he wanted when he purchased a nondescript triplex in Montreal, Quebec's Plateau neighbourhood — a space with elements of his Scandinavian background as well as local influences. With the team of designer Maria Rosa Di Ioia and architect Emilie Bédard of EM Architecture, the result is a seamless modern space that combines details like the wrought-iron spiral staircase (an aesthetic nod to the neighbourhood's signature outdoor stairways) and a rooftop sauna — an essential for Erik. Great reno. More here on Dwell (and check out the before photos to see just what an amazing job they did).
