Minimalist in Wiesbaden

Admiring this serene minimalist apartment in Wiesbaden, a recent project by the German design firm Studio Oink. Love the delicate tone of the natural wood against the white background. More here on Trendland.

Concrete Ideas

For Jochen Pohlmann and Mathiaas Riedel, their Berlin apartment's bare concrete walls is a return to a more natural way of living — one that embraces materials for what they are, rather than disguising or covering them up. The resulting palette of soft greys is nicely contrasted with rich dark tones here and there — all adding up to a remarkably serene space. More here on Elle Décoration.

A Sculptural Approach

Today I'm admiring the clean modern lines of the Gräfelfing House by architect Uwe Klose, designed for a family in Gräfelfing, Germany. The use of interlocking block shapes feels very sculptural to me — a real sensitivity to form and space. More here on Home Adore.

A Castle of One's Own

Artist/designer Aylin Langreuter and her husband, designer Christophe de la Fontaine and their two children recently traded their 1930s modernist apartment in Milan to move to a very small, very old castle at the foot of the Bavarian Forest. Dating from 1336, it was in surprisingly good condition — and the price is what they would have paid for a three bedroom apartment in Munich. But what they both fell hard for was the fairy tale atmosphere of their new home, which is now a wonderful mix of old and new. More here at Architektur and Wohnen.

A Berlin Jewel

Located in Schöneberg, a west Berlin neighborhood known for its art galleries, cafés, and fashion boutiques, the tiny apartment of Peter Fehrentz was in a highly desirable spot but in less than desirable condition — cramped and dark, it also had such oddities as a three foot wide bathroom with a tub that could only be reached by climbing over the loo. Fortunately, Peter, an interior designer, photographer, stylist and set designer, brings a trained eye to the potential in even the most unprepossessing of spaces. Starting from scratch, he had all the interior walls removed and began again, designing many of the fixtures (and the couch) himself along the way. Three years later, it's a warm space, in deep charcoal greys highlighted with beautiful jewel-toned colours. Love. More here on Dwell.

A Quiet Retreat

Located in a former warehouse on the waterfront in Hamburg, the home of Wolfram, Christian and their two children is furnished in soft creams and greys warmed with touches of wood — all contributing to its wonderfully calming atmosphere. Love.
