Me too!
I have just discovered this pleasure recently too! Nigel Slater is my man of choice of late - what he lacks in pictures he makes up for with good good writing. I've even been known to take him to bed with me.
Agree. I can read a cookbook cover to cover like a novel. And I love a photo for each dish.
I love well-used old cookbooks...with notes and food splotches...such a sense of a someone's life.
