Atelier: Vintage Romeo Gigli

I recently discovered two vintage issues of Taxi magazine while clearing out an old trunk — and when, happily flipping through their pages, I saw this spread on Italian designer Romeo Gigli, I just had to share. Enjoy.

I adored that magazine! Oh, my that was years and years ago! Sadly, I lost my copies from multiple moves. Along with a vintage pink polka dot dress and a hat I was certain was work my Frank Sinatra and... Sigh.

I too have that Taxi Magazine and several others. That was the era which sparked my most creative surge. I think Romeo Gigli deserves a lifetime achievement award for genius.

His work was breathtaking and otherworldly and he did not depict women as vamps as fashion seems to do today. Putting women in stilettos and photographing them in undignified and creepy oversexuaized ways is very sad after a long era of liberation and beauty.
