Atelier: Susie MacMurray

A Mixture of Frailties, 2004
(1400 yellow household gloves turned inside out, calico)

Widow, 2009
(black napa leather, 43 kg adamantine dress maker's pins)

Gladrags, 2002
(10,000 fuschia pink balloons, rug underlay)

Icon, 2002
(15,000 metallic blue balloons, rug underlay)

Today I'm admiring the extraordinary work of Manchester U.K.-based artist Susie MacMurray — in particular her Garment Sculptures series, in which the usage of everyday materials such as balloons, rubber gloves and pins give her beautiful dresses an ironic subtext. Really clever and inventive work.
