With raw rainy weather outside, this is pretty much the perfect solution inside.
Update: I've been getting a lot of emails and comments about this post since it was featured on Pinterest and other sites — this chunky knit throw was originally from anthropologie, but is no longer available. If you'd like to make your own, you can source similar chunky yarns, oversize knitting needles and other supplies by doing a search on etsy.

Yes, I want exactly this cosy thick blanket - here its freezing (-8°C - 17,8° F).
This plus my gray knit robe...I feel like The Dude (except it does have dark rose-colored tie). Oof. It was bound to happen here sooner or later...so later is not bad compared to Europe. xo
Holy crap! I don't even know how you obtain yarn that thick lol! I wonder what size needles you would need...
Cassandra Marie--I should have my head examined because I ought not look things up in Wikipedia when I'm supposed to do other things. BUT...one Julia Hopson in Cornwall, UK has the Guinness World Record for humongous knitting needles. It's fairly amusing on a cold winter's day. I won't put the link in but it does lead to a cute UK wool site.
so cozy looking
I cannot even begin to describe the emotional and physical reaction to seeing this blanket!!! OMG! Squeals of delight!!! :)
Haha! You are all so awesome — and educational (thx Susan)! Glad you all loved this as much as I did!!!
xoxo
Yes please!
What beautiful hands she has.
How does one make this? Do they sell yarn like this? I seriously want one and I don't knit, at all.
Yes, they do make chunky yarn like this, Robin — and knit it with gigantic oversized needles! You can probably find supplies online, too!
:-)
i absolutely LOVE this blanket! i have never knit before though :( is there a good website or youtube video that will teach me? also, where would you recommend i buy the yarn and needles?
thanks for the post!
i would really like to knit one of these but where do i buy this yarn, i cant seem to find it online?
I know this post is over a year old, but I just saw the picture through pinterest and I LOVE the texture and creamy color. I have a pattern for a small afghan that's knit double stranded and seeing this makes me want to dig it out and start working on it again. Beautiful.
You use your hands and arms just like needles
HOW & WHERE DO I BUY IT!??!?!
Did u make this blanket?? Can I have the pattern...PLEASE!!
Pottery barn sells a chunky throw similar to this.
Here you can this yarn, needles and kits for this kind of blanket and many more:
