Little luxuries? Homemade bread, toasted with peanut butter. Clean bedding on a Sunday morning. At least one cup of really decent coffee. My favourite mug. Getting up early and savouring the peace before the day starts. Curling up under a blanket at the end of a day. Handmade soap. Can't decide if blogging is a luxury or a necessity!

My chocolate powder and coffee concoction that isn't quite a mocha. I also love getting the occasional massage. So soothing.

Leaving a bit of time to read every single day is my favorite treat to myself - it's peace and quiet and escape :)

After arriving home last evening from a week in a heated, well-appointed house but unhappy home feels like a luxury. (They argue a lot, the over-privileged hosts). I lost power for over a week here in DC-area & it was very upsetting, got sick, etc. After 4 days I couldn't take the 35 degrees & darkness any longer. And the cat was very upset, too.

So, along with peace & quiet, I would say flowers by bedside (which I bought to put in guestroom where I stayed--& of course I bought some for hosts as well...hoping they might stop being mean to each other, though they did not); hot espresso made on stovetop; the newspapers; playing with the cat; listening to the radio; looking out the back window onto parkland (in an urban area) for deer & other fauna. Mainly I'm finding electricity (heat) a luxury & grateful for it, though it is a drafty apt. I don't care. I'm home.

xoxo

MY GRANDMOTHER is right now playing with my 7 month old. I would have to say having family around is my big luxury. I never really truly appreciated having them around until I had my daughter. Two minutes of someone else entertaining an infant is a luxury today :)

A good glass of pinot noir, living a block from a wonderful coffee shop, buying fresh flowers for the dining room table every once in a while. It definitely is the little things in life.

Getting into bed with fresh sheets. I love smooth, cool sheets, pillows set at the perfect prop-me-up angle for reading and the duvet folded so it will cover my shoulders just right when I snuggle down. Since my husband prefers the bed to be rumpled and "cozy", we have to take turns!

Here in Olympics Land we have had such beautiful weather (much to the dismay of those who groom the mountains) I've been opening the windows and letting the spring inside. I never realize how much I miss the sound of happy, chirpy birds and the smell of green until this time of year rolls around again.

Making a chocolate cake. Melting the chocolate to glossy, smooth perfection, breaking the eggs (using that one hand trick) and perfectly sculpting a smooth top on each cup of flour... then mixing it all together before watching the magic take place in the oven. (Licking the spoon is almost as good as a piece of the finished product.) Then more melting of chocolate for the frosting. Yum. I can't say I do this every day, but I do it a lot of days. It is truly a treasured luxury to take the time to enjoy this process.
