I took this photo last year during the holidays, shortly after we’d moved out of the city. It’s a little blurry and I can’t quite figure out the angle in which I took it, but I love it. Something about it just makes me smile—it conjures up memories of our first Christmas together in our new home and makes me think of what’s to come. This season we’ll have something new to celebrate, since our daughter will have just been born. We’ll have a highchair seated at our Thanksgiving table, another stocking to fill on the mantle, a new ornament to add to the tree, and tons of new memories to make as a family. To me, there is nothing more tranquil than this—being with the people you love most during the holiday season.

oh it is the perfect photo. all lights off in the house but the ones on the tree and soft music in the background, pine smell in the air. just right.
this is my childhood holiday. my mom used to turn on the tree lights in the early afternoon and let me take a nap under the tree. i'd fall asleep and wake to exactly this.
wow, that took me back. lovely.
This is a very special holiday season for us too, for we are beginning our own little traditions and are no longer traveling to relatives homes and partaking in the exhaustive circuit. Instead, I'll decorate our own tree for the first time, leave cupcakes for Santa, and assemble toys for the crumb's first 'real' Christmas experience! I CANNOT wait!
Lori, thank you for including me in this series...I loved thinking about what tranquility meant to me, and it's so fun to see what it means to some of my favorite girls, too. Here's to a magical holiday season :)
This is such a beautiful photo. I love when Melissa talks about her daughter. It just completely warms my heart.
Thanks so much for your beautiful contribution, Melisa — so inspiring and lovely! Have a wonderful holiday!

These coloured lights bring back childhood memories! I can remember when mom and I would light them when the tree decorating was finished and I got to pull the string of a big silver bell wich played "Oh Tennenbaum"...I cherish these memories eventhough I don't celebrate Christmas as a Messianic believer*Yeshua (Jesus's real Name..) wasn't born in December atall but in September according to the Bible, but we celebrate all other Tora and New Testament feasts and in December we celebrate Chanakah...I do all the trimmings then, mostly blue and white colours wich refer to Israƫls coloured flag...just as great and more meaningful...
lovely!
Such a lovely post. :)
Love the image... something about it is sort of "old-timey" and nostalgic.
