Tagged!

Lovely Emma of emmas designblogg tagged me last week — here goes!

Rules: Write 6 random things about myself, link the person who tagged you, post the rules. Tag six people and link them. Let them know they have been tagged.

1. I do the New York Times crossword puzzle every day.

2. I am terrible with plants. I constantly forget to water the poor things that grimly cling to life in front of my living room window. This does make me appreciate gardens, though, from a tiny pot of kitchen herbs to grand formal gardens (I especially love walking through the Jardin de Luxembourg when Andrew and I are in Paris).

3. I have an extensive lipstick wardrobe. Clothing — not so much (though if I had the budget for it I would).

4. I'm told I'm a good listener, which is fortunate as I'm a terrible conversationalist (I've always been extremely shy). I sincerely admire people who have mastered this fab social skill. This is also why I prefer to communicate with illustration clients by email rather than by phone.

5. I follow Buddhism, but not in any formal way. A bit of meditation, but mostly just being kind, compassionate and nonjudgmental towards others pretty much covers it.

6. I think fresh bread and chocolate are a match made in heaven. Needless to say, I love the classic French pain au chocolat ...

I won't be tagging anyone for this as I've tagged other blogs before, but do check out some of the many wonderful blogs I've linked to on the right. I've done a couple of other tags in the past, too, which you can find by doing a blog label search on 'tag'.

(Beautiful photograph of a happy alternative to house plants is by the amazing Ngoc Minh Ngo)

How good is it to learn a little about you!? Now I see a few (more) of the reasons I enjoy your blog so much. Thank you for sharing!
ps - I recently killed a plant my mother-in-law gave my son (so many reasons that is not good).

pps - I love the photo, too!

Thanks so much, Liza — you are so sweet! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who is not good with plants — I sincerely hope the mother-in-law plant incident repercussions weren't too awful! Ouch!

Love the photo! I am shy too. And.. I am not supposed to say this since I've been a florist but I am horrible with indoor plants! So don't feel bad. Oh, and yes on the bread and chocolate too!

Ohh that floral bedroom makes me want to make my home uber-girlie and full of flower prints! I don't know how well my boyfriend would like it though... Also- I love that you have an extensive lipstick wardrobe- you pull it off in a way I never could :)

Thanks so much for sharing, Chelsea — that makes me feel much much better! :-)

And you're super sweet, Danielle — thanks! And would your boyfriend really mind if you had the odd floral here and there? :-)

I'm also completely shy and always panic on the phone (maybe it's part of why we bloggers love this form of community!)

Fresh chocolate and bread are absolutely a match made in heaven. Yum.

The bedroom picture is divine too!

Thank you so much, Jane, Caroline, Jill and N+S, for your lovely comments! I am so lucky to have such beautiful and generous readers! Maybe all of us shy people should get together and have a round of pain au chocolat — we'll be too busy being blissed out by delicious pastry to talk much, anyway!

P.S. to N+S: I don't always finish the NYT crossword — sometimes my brain just says that's enough!

I love this post...and pain au chocolat, Buddhist philosophy and written communication over verbal some days. It's nice that you are someone who doesn't talk too much. You have other beautiful talents that more than make up for that.

That comment has pretty much left me speechless, Kate — such a lovely thing to say, and thank you so much!
