Virago Modern Classics Turns 30

Virago Modern Classics turns 30 next month! With the publication of Antonia White's book Frost in May in 1978, Virago Press launched a list that led to the rediscovery and reprinting of women writers whose work had been lost, as well as demonstrating the existence of a female tradition in literature. To mark the anniversary, eight of its most popular titles will be re-issued by Virago Press in hardcover format, with covers designed by textile designers such as Lucienne Day and Celia Birtwell, and with new introductions, too. For an excellent overview of the history of this more than worthy series, I highly recommend reading Rachel Cooke's Guardian article here.

Pyrex Spectacular

Hollie and Jane of White Elephant Vintage sent along a little note yesterday -- for the last couple of months they've been searching high and low for every complete vintage Pyrex mixing and cinderella bowl set they could find, and now they're having a Pyrex Spectacular! The sale starts tonight, and there's loads of great stuff just waiting for a new home. Seeing those mixing bowls reminds me of childhood summer al fresco suppers, with potato salad in the red bowl, tossed greens in the green bowl...
