Indian Miniature

Just got back from picking up Greg from the airport, where we found that despite his marathon travel back home from India (which included no sleep for around 36 hours), he was in surprisingly good spirits. Back at his place, he showed us a few of the beautiful things he bought while he was there, such as a stunning embroidered bedspread he picked out for the spare bedroom (looks amazing), funky bags, lovely silver, interesting teas, and his gift to me - two beautiful traditional Indian miniatures. The detail is wonderful - Greg says that they use brushes of a single camel hair to do the really fine line work. You can see why it can take days to finish each one - the one shown here took about three days. Another cool detail is that the miniatures were painted on leaves from old books - the back is as interesting as the front. I'll need to find a clear frame so that both sides can be viewed . . .
